13/11/2009 - 16:05:56
Dozens of Irish companies will fly out to the Middle East next week on a mission to drum up new business.

Trade minister Billy Kelleher will lead the delegation of construction, IT, healthcare and education companies to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It is hoped the trip will further raise the profile of Irish business in the what has become one of the fastest growing markets in the Gulf.

“Sales by Irish companies in the UAE were €333m last year, an annual increase of 14%,” said Mr Kelleher.

“This mission is about building on the trade links and relationships that have been established through previous trade missions and the ongoing work of Enterprise Ireland here in the region.”

Some 44 companies are part of the mission which will meet with industry leaders in telecoms, pharmaceuticals, third level education, power, construction and software.

Enterprise Ireland’s chief executive Frank Ryan said there is substantial potential for increased trade between the two countries.
