Irish cars could run on sugar beet ethanol mix

Ireland's cars could soon be running on alcohol after recent research at the Institute of Carlow indicated that bioethanol extracted from sugar beet is a viable fuel for engines.

Researchers claimed that a mix of 95% ethanol and 5% petrol can run a car as efficiently as petrol.

Brazil is the world's forerunner in this practice. Seven out of all the new cars sold there have "flex-fuel" engines built in.
