IDA 'fighting Ireland's corner as hard as we can' for post-Brexit investment

The IDA says it is already out fighting for every possible investment by companies here as a result of the British vote to leave the EU.

The agency has reported a heightened level of activity in the last week and a half and has already made contact with the 1,200 companies it supports here.

It said that there may well be opportunities in the financial and tech sectors where companies located in Britain want to ensure a base inside the EU.

CEO Martin Shanahan said that every possible opportunity for investment in Ireland will be looked at.

"Any investment that becomes mobile, any organisation that is searching for a home within Europe - IDA will be in the middle of that and we will fight Ireland's corner as hard as we can," he said.

"We will not have a free run at this. As you have seen already, all competitor countries are increasing their activity.

"What I will say is that Ireland has a very strong heritage in this space, we have decades of experience."
