IBEC wants Govt to cut top rate of tax

A new report from employers group IBEC claims Ireland's income tax regime is one of the most punitive in Europe.

The group is calling for the top 52% tax rate to be reduced in the budget.

The call has been rejected by Barnardo's and St Vincent de Paul, who want investment in housing and child supports.

However, IBEC chief economist Fergal O'Brien says reducing the top rate is good for jobs.
