Google tops Irish export list

Internet giant Google has topped a list of the top 250 exporting companies in Ireland.

The Irish Exporters Association said that the company's export turnover jumped by 55% in the past year to over €10bn.

The group says companies in the agri-Food sector, like the Kerry Group and Glanbia, are also flourishing.

Spokesperson for the IEA, John Whelan, said that there is been rapid growth in many key areas over the past year.

"A wide range of software, manufacturing and, shall we say, life-sciences companies, they account for a relatively small proportion of our total exports, but they have been growing rapidly and many of them will become big international stars," he said.

"To give you an indication, last year this particular non-agrifoods indigenous Irish sector grew by 32%, which is an outstanding performance and not one we've seen from that sector before."
