The number of residential mortgages in arrears is continuing to fall - according to new figures from the Department of Finance.

The number of residential mortgages in arrears is continuing to fall - according to new figures from the Department of Finance.

In the latest figures for August, homeowners in arrears for more than three months fell by 2% (1,435 accounts) at the end of August 2014 when compared to July.

There are now 69,865 mortgages in arrears of more than 90 days - compared to 593,700 not in arrears.

There has been an increase of almost 5% (3,800) in the number of permanent mortgage restructures over last month.

Total mortgage accounts in arrears (all arrears one day past due) continues to fall, decreasing by 2% (2,089 accounts) when compared to the end of July.
