ISEQ up almost 20 points

The Irish Stock Exchange has responded somewhat positively to yesterday’s Budget as the ISEQ index of Irish shares climbed 19.75 points in morning trading today.

There was little movement for the financials. Irish Life and Permanent grew 4c to €3.29, and Allied Irish Banks inched up 1c to €1.40. Bank of Ireland was unchanged at €1.50.

The construction sector saw contrasting fortunes. CRH enjoyed a 27c boost to €17.59. Kingspan suffered a 19c loss to €6.23 however.

The biggest gain of the day came for Kerry Group, which shot up 65c to €21.65. Paddy Power was up 39c to €25. Smurfit Kappa (up 16c to €5.96) and Irish Continental Group (up 15c to €13.40).
