ISEQ down almost 3%

The value of Irish shares sunk by almost 3% in a day that saw no gains of any significance on the Irish Stock Exchange.
The ISEQ index of Irish shares was down 81.50 points to 2,791.70 by close of trade.
In the financial sector, Allied Irish Bank led the side, sinking 13c to €1.60. Bank of Ireland shed 3c to finish on €1.68, and Irish Life & Permanent was unchanged at €3.42.
The construction sector took a hit, with CRH falling 65c to €16.70. Grafton Group was down 16c to €3.10.
Smurfit Kappa (down 27c to €5.53), DCC (down 25c to €18.30) and Elan (down 14c to €4.02).
Elan (down 14c to €4.02) and Donegal Creameries (down 10c to €2.25) also lost ground.
