Expiry of tax breaks 'may cause construction slump'

The cost management firm Davis Langdon PKS has warned of a possible slump in the construction sector next year.

The company said the level of building work could seriously decline due to the expiry of a range of tax breaks in mid-2006.

The breaks apply to residential accommodation, hotels, student residences, private hospitals and sports clinics.

Davis Langdon PKS has called on the Government to extend the tax breaks for another year to avoid an expensive rush to finish projects by the 2006 deadline.
