European Commission calls for loans to Greece
19/03/2010 - 18:49:47The European Commission wants Germany and other eurozone governments to put up a package of government-to-government loans to Greece to ease its financial plight.
Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said European aid was necessary because “we cannot prolong any further the current situation”.
He said the loans would not have to be paid out immediately.
Barroso, speaking to reporters today, urged EU leaders to agree on this at a summit next week.
