Decline in construction sector increases

The pace of decline in the construction sector accelerated last month at its fastest pace since last October, according to the latest Ulster Bank index for April.
The index confirms that construction remains among the weakest sectors of the economy.
Within the sector, the reduction in house building was sharper than falls in commercial and engineering projects.
Ulster Bank's Chief Economist Simon Barry said the decreased workload means employment is also continuing to drop off.
