ISEQ down 50 as financials bear the brunt

The financials were hit hard today as the ISEQ index of shares fell 51.02 points to 7899.81.

AIB was worst hit, down 29c to €19.18. Anglo Irish slid 26c to €13.44, while Bank of Ireland lost 23c to close at €15.02.

Irish Life & Permanent bucked the trend, closing up 4c at €18.39.

Shares in Ulster Television fell 22c to €6.20.

Elan slipped 13c to €12.32.

Eircom was down 4c to €2.13, despite Babcock and Brown’s announcement yesterday that it had upped its stake in the telecom to 28.8%.
