CSO figures show gain in new car licences

The demand for new vehicles has grown, according to the Central Statistics Office.

In March, there was a rise of 8.4% in private new cars being licenced for the first time, when compared to the same month in 2013.

There was a large increase in new imported cars being licenced, which were up over 18%.

And the number of goods vehicles licenced for the first time jumped over 50%.

More than 20,000 new vehicles were licenced for the first time in March, an increase of 15.5% on March 2013.

The majority of new vehicles were diesel.
