Consumer prices rise in February

Consumer prices rose by 0.8 percent last month.

According to the latest figures from the CSO, the biggest jump in February was in clothing and footwear, which increased by 7.1% compared to January.

However that recovery is being attributed to the natural increase in prices following the winter sales.

Year on year, prices were 1.1% higher in February this year than in 2012, with the biggest jump in alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 5.4%.

Education costs were also higher in February compared to the same time last year, increasing by 4.7%.

However there were also drops, with clothing and footwear falling 2.2% on the previous February.
