Construction sees steepest fall in activity since May

Activity within the Construction sector continued to fall sharply last month, according to the Ulster Bank Construction Index.

The index shows a drop from 34.2 to 33.1.

Activity, new business and employment all fell at faster rates during December than the previous month.

The drop was the steepest since May last year.

Job cuts have been recorded in the construction sector since May 2007 - with the lastest reduction in staffing levels the fastest in seven months.
