Clerys appoints new MD

Dominic Prendergast has been appointed as managing director of Clerys department store, with immediate effect.

OSC Operations Ltd, a subsidiary of Gordon Brothers, the global investment and advisory company, announced the appointment this morning.

Commenting on the appointment, Frank Morton, CEO, Gordon Brothers Europe said: “The calibre of this appointment represents an achievement for Clerys and presents the Department Store with an opportunity to address decisively the challenges it faces.

“Dominic will bring a renewed impetus and momentum to the business through fresh and innovative thinking backed up by a wealth of experience in the retail sector and a track record of building shareholder value.

“We wish the very best to Dominic and the management team at Clerys.”

Prendergast has more than 37 years experience in the UK retail sector.

Working across a number of positions for over 20 years in Allders Department Stores, he joined BHS in 1995 as regional controller.

He became director of the Early Learning Centre 1998, and in 2001 became retail director of Thornton’s plc.

In 2008 he was appointed Retail Director for Jessops. He is also managing director of the Oxford Summer School Ltd, a retail learning and development programme run ‘for retailers by retailers’ – a position Prendergast will retain while managing Clerys.
