Car sales fall by almost a fifth in May
01/06/2012 - 15:34:19Car sales are continuing to decline in line with weak consumer confidence.
There was an 18% decrease in new car sales during May, bringing the fall in sales for the year to 8.7%.
The Society of the Irish Motor industry has said the outlook for the coming six months is "very worrying".
It said the shortfall in sales is not sustainable with long established dealerships being forced to close.
It has also warned that the reduction in sales could cut revenue for the Government by as much as €385m a year.
