Boots strike suspended for one week

18/11/2009 - 18:17:13
Mandate Trade Union confirmed today that they have agreed to suspend strike action in Boots for one week in order for discussions in the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to continue.

Both Boots management and Mandate have agreed to reconvene talks on Friday.

Mandate Assistant General Secretary, Gerry Light sai: “In an effort to give the discussions every chance of a successful outcome, and in the interests of our members and the retail business of Boots, we have agreed to suspend the strike action for one week.”

Boots workers were due to strike on Saturday, November 28, but Mandate say the new date for industrial action is December 5.

Mandate-affiliated Boots workers voted 60:40 in favour of strike action earlier this month after the company sought pay cuts of up to 15%.

Boots, which has 57 stories across Ireland, has up to 1,700 members of staff in Ireland. Some 900 of those are members of the Mandate union.
