Bank survey indicates stronger employment activity

Irish business activity strengthened in the early part of the year, indicating the first clear improvement since 2007.

The data is contained in the latest business sentiment survey from KBC Bank, which says the level of job gains now matches job losses.

Chief economist with the bank Austin Hughes said: "The number of companies that report that their payroll levels are down is matched by the number who say that they have increased employment.

"That's the first time that has happened since the end of 2007 and it signals that perhaps we're coming to a point where job losses equal job gains in the Irish economy."
