Austria's Finance Minister has called for IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn to step down to avoid damaging the institution in the wake of his arrest for sexual assault.
Maria Fekter said that considering the fact that his bail was refused, he should resign as head of the IMF.
Strauss-Kahn has been charged following an arrest in New York on Saturday for the alleged sexual assault of a maid in a Manhattan hotel.
Other European finance ministers meeting in Brussels today refrained from calling on Strauss-Kahn to leave his post, but insisted that even if he were to leave, another European should take over at the helm of the IMF.
