Aer Lingus announces 40% profits surge

Aer Lingus has announced operating profits of €69.1m last year, up 40% on 2011 figures.
The airline said 2012 was a record year in terms of passenger numbers with a total of 10.8 million people flying on Aer Lingus flights, a 3.8% increase on 2011.
The company said the new year is proving positive too, with the highest day of revenue in the history of the airline booked in January.
Aer Lingus boss Christoph Mueller said 2013 would be a year of growth for Aer Lingus.
"We will grow our North Atlantic services by 15% this year and deploy four short haul aircraft in a co-operation with Virgin Atlantic out of London Heathrow," he said.
"We will also fly one Airbus A330 aircraft during the next three winter seasons on behalf of a major European tour operator which will improve aircraft utilisation in the low season. "
