A woman in China who named her dog after her neighbour and allegedly swore at it has been fined €600.

Hu Lin called her pet pooch Wang after neighbour Wang Sun - who she fell out with over a building extension to his house six years ago - and he claimed she would regularly curse the canine whenever he was in the vicinity, the Austrian Times reports.

As a result, the judge fined her €600 and told her to apologise to her neighbour after coming to the conclusion she had caused him "mental anguish".

Speaking at a court in Gansu province, Wang said: "To get her own back she named her dog Wang and then whenever she saw me she would start swearing and insulting the dog using my name.

"Everyone knew what she was up to."
