Japanese to investigate high number of deaths in the tub


Japan's health ministry is launching an investigation after it was estimated 14,000 people in the country die every year in the bath.

The figures were announced after the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare looked into how many people are passing away in the tub each year in the country after local authorities collected statistics that indicated many elderly people were dying in this way.

But the data points to the majority of deaths being caused by drowning, heart attacks or heart palpitations, and the death toll increases significantly during the winter time when people move from a cold place to a warmer situation and suffer "thermal shock".
