Rain hits Newton Abbot meeting

Waterlogging has claimed Thursday’s jumps meeting at Newton Abbot.

Eleven millimetres of overnight rain left course officials with no choice but to call off the fixture.

The long-range forecast also offered no hope that the situation would improve sufficiently by Thursday.

Clerk of the course Jason Loosemore said: ``We've had 20 millimetres of rain from Monday, which has put the situation beyond hope.

“We were delicately poised all week and that has meant we had to call it off now – especially as more rain is coming.”
