Pharmacists: Shortage of medicines risks patients' health

The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) is warning that some patients' health is being put at risk by a shortage of vital medicines.
Speaking at the union's annual conference in Galway today, incoming IPU President Rory O'Donnell called on the Department of Health to take action to ensure that adequate supplies of vital medicines are available on a constant basis.
Mr O'Donnell said the latest example is the shortage of Eltroxin, a drug used to treat thyroid problems, which are very common.
He has called the situation "unacceptable" and says the Government must take action on the issue.
