Woman dies after Dutch train crash


A 68-year-old woman has died of injuries she sustained when two trains collided head-on in Amsterdam, injuring scores of passengers.

She died today, a day after the crash. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan said 16 other people seriously injured in the crash remain in hospital.

A top rail official has described the collision as one of the worst train crashes in the Netherlands’ recent history.

Bert Meerstadt, director of national railroad operator NS, told reporters technicians began studying the tracks for damage.
