Three-quarters of drivers complain of 'unfair' clamping

Three quarters of drivers who have had their car clamped in the past year feel it happened in "unfair circumstances", according to an AA Motor Insurance survey of 2,000 drivers.
Among the most common complaints cited were "obscured or unclear parking signage" and parking discs having expired by only a few minutes before a clamp was fitted to the vehicle.
Many motorists reckon arguing is a futile act, but the tactics used by those who have tried to dodge fines include pleading ignorance, shouting at the phone operator or even drumming up some tears while making up a "bleeding heart" excuse.
Some 9% of female drivers admitted to trying to avoid a fine by crying, while 5% admitted to flirting in an effort to avoid the penalty.
