Drumm: Less treatments does not mean cutbacks

09/02/2010 - 16:32:58
The head of the Health Service Executive Brendan Drumm has said "treating less people in hospitals doesn't equate to cutbacks in services".

Mr Drumm is appearing before an Oireachtas committee to discuss the HSE's service plan for 2010 which involves cuts of €660m in funding.

He said: "It is a hugely demanding service plan, but the organisation is up for the challenge."

Professor Drumm said more people will be treated in the community and in day proceedures.
