ICTU says strike plans will stay in place
18/11/2009 - 16:51:00The General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions has said next Tuesday's public sector strike is still going ahead.
David Begg said there has been little progress in talks between trade union leaders and the Government on the proposed cuts in next month's Budget.
Public servants are planning to down tools on November 24 in protest at plans to cut public sector pay by €1.3bn.
Mr Begg says the strike is going ahead due to the absence of progress in the talks.
"I do know in terms of the issue under discussion… with Government that things have not moved on significantly in recent days" he said.
"I would expect that those plans which the unions have put in place would stay in place," he added.
