Trap’s boys are ‘going to go for it’ at Croker
Republic of Ireland midfielder Aiden McGeady has said Giovanni Trapattoni’s side are ‘going to have to go for it’ when they face France on Saturday night.
The Boys in Green are wary of conceding a goal to Les Bleus and are aiming to take a one-goal lead to France where they think they can snatch an away goal.
The Celtic midfielder said: “If we get ourselves off to a good start with one or two goals, it will give us a good platform for the game in France. I think you have to go for it.”
Trapattoni has a selection headache on the wings with McGeady, Fulham’s Damien Duff, Stoke’s Liam Lawrence and Hull City’s Stephen Hunt all vying for a place against the French.
The Celtic winger is hopeful of getting a starting place in Croke Park on Saturday night.
He said: “I played the last game against Italy, the manager was big enough to put me in for that game.
“But it is going to be four players into two positions, so obviously there are going to be two of the boys that are disappointed.”
