Daly extends Dublin deal
The Dublin County Board has confirmed that Anthony Daly has agreed a one-year extension to his tenure as the capital's senior hurling manager.
The Clarecastle man, who captained his native Clare to All-Ireland glory in 1995 and 1997, enjoyed a very positive first season with the Dubs.
They won the Walsh Cup Shield before recording National League wins over Cork, Galway and Waterford and finishing fourth in the final Division 1 table.
Victories over Antrim and Wexford catapulted Dublin into their first Leinster SHC final since 1991, which they lost to Kilkenny with two goals from Martin Comerford proving decisive.
Daly's charges bowed out of the All-Ireland Championship at the quarter-final stage, going down to Limerick by 2-18 to 1-17.
But there is renewed hope that the Dubs can mount a consistent challenge for top honours over the next few years, spearheaded by the likes of Alan McCrabbe, the capital's first hurling All-Star since 1990.
Announcing Daly's contract extension, Dublin County Board CEO John Costello said: "Under the guidance of Anthony and his management team, our senior hurlers made significant strides in 2009 and he will be remaining at the helm until the end of the 2011 Championship.
"Under Anthony's management, we are confident that the team can continue their progress over the coming two seasons."
The Dubs' first competitive game of the 2010 season will be a Walsh Cup clash with Carlow or NUI Galway on January 31.
