Sales up slightly in September

The volume of retail sales has increased by 1.5% in September, according to official figures released today.
Sales were down 10% compared to the same month last year, however.
New figures from the CSO show that a sharp decline in motor sales of more than 29% is the main cause of the drop in the year.
Sales are also down in clothing and footwear by 5.9%, with bar sales down 10% and household equipment dropping by more than 13%.
