Harney wants healthcare workers to focus on swine-flu fight

02/11/2009 - 12:43:17
Mary Harney is appealing to doctors and nurses not to let their grievances with the Government get in the way of the battle against swine flu.

The Health Minister's comments come as the first vaccines to at-risk patients are given by GPs.

The vaccine will be rolled out to other sections of the population in the weeks and months ahead.

"I think everybody who works in healthcare, particularly nurses and doctors, take their responsibility to their patients seriously," said Minister Harney today.

"I would appeal, particularly in the context of the swine flu, not to allow that to be jeopardised by any industrial relations difficulties - or any difficulty between the Government and its employees".

"If we're all responsible and work together, we will come through this (recession). There is light at the end of the tunnel. The country will begin to grow again - it could in fact be growing again as we speak."
