ISEQ down almost 2%

The ISEQ index of Irish shares was on a downward trend in early trading this morning, shedding 44.65 points or 1.78% to 2,648.69 by 11.15am.

Index majors on the fallers' board included Kerry Group and CRH, both down 35c to 16.70 and 15.61 respectively; Dragon Oil, down 19c to 3.80; C&C, falling 10c to 2.59; Smurfit Kappa, also off 10c to 3.51; Kingspan, shedding 10c to 3.85; Elan Corp, off 10c to 5.75; Grafton Group, slipping 7c to 2.47; Ryanair, 6c down to 3.17, and Glanbia, off 5c to 2.20.

Notable among the risers were Paddy Power, lifting 10c to 16.50, and Tullow Oil, adding 6c to 10.86.

Among the financials, AIB was down 4c to 1.61, Bank of Ireland dropped 5c to 1.49 and Irish Life & Permanent was unchanged at 3.20.
