Jira set for Moyglare mission
Clive Brittain’s Newmarket winner Jira is set for a step back up in class on her next start.
The veteran handler is eyeing a tilt at the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on August 30 after the Medicean filly came from last to first to win the Empress Stakes.
“Jira came out of the race really well, she only lost three kilos,” said Brittain.
“Considering the way the race panned out I was amazed she won – I thought second was the best she could hope for.
“At the moment, as Misheer runs in the Cherry Hinton next week, I’d say she’s likely to go for the Moyglare.
“Nothing went right for her, she went from the stands’ side to the middle and must have given away at least six lengths.
“If she’d been drawn on the right side in the Albany she’d have gone very close in that too, but she came out of stall 20 and was left on a limb.
“She’ll stay a mile no problem, her character suggests that too. She stood on her bridle on Saturday and snapped it so she was walking around with no bridle but she walked straight into her box on her own.”
