Warning issued about bogus Revenue email

30/06/2009 - 19:44:51
Revenue today warned of a bogus email tricking people into sending personal financial information.

The scam first popped up in March with fraudsters contacting their victims claiming they are owed a tax refund and asking for credit or debit card details and date of birth.

“The email appears to have issued again today,” a spokeswoman said. “This email did not issue from Revenue.

“The Revenue Commissioners never send emails which require customers to send personal information via email or pop-up windows.”

Revenue asked anyone who receives a suspicious email to forward it to webmaster@revenue.ie.

“Anyone who provided bank information in response to these emails should contact their bank or credit card company immediately,” the spokeswoman added.
