Six Chinese women rescued from brothels in PSNI raids
Police in the North say they have rescued six women from brothels in a bid to smash a human-trafficking ring run by the Chinese mafia.
All the rescued women are understood to be Chinese who were tricked to come to the North on the promise of cleaning and nannying jobs.
They were instead forced into prostitution under threat of extreme violence either directly or to their families.
Five were rescued in morning raids by armed officers on two terraced houses in affluent south Belfast.
The other woman was found when police raided a property in Derry.
One man was arrested in Belfast and a man and woman detained in Kidderminster, England during a co-ordinated operation.
Twenty human trafficking victims have now been rescued in the North in a little over a year.
Records recovered from one of the houses showed the three women inside had seen 15 male clients yesterday alone.
