The Government has approved publication of the new Planning and Development Bill.

Under its provisions, variations to a development or local area plan will require the support of a two-thirds majority from the planning authority as opposed to a simple majority as is currently the case.

Environment Minister John Gormley says the changes in the law will ensure sensible and ethical planning in the future.
