Gardaí issue bank holiday road warning

28/05/2009 - 11:57:11
Gardai are encouraging all road users to exercise extra care this bank holiday weekend in an effort to prevent accidents and fatalities.

Some 107 people have died in road accidents so far this year, four fewer than the same period last year.

Gardaí say an increasing number of road deaths are happening in the early hours of the morning, with 15 of the deaths so far this year happening in the two-hour period between 6am and 8am.

Gardaí say tiredness and excessive speed are the main reasons for these fatalities.
