Encouraging gains for ISEQ

It was a rare day of good news for the Irish Stock Exchange, as the ISEQ index of Irish shares enjoyed a 25.22-point bump to 2,109.93.

The financials did not benefit from the prevailing good mood, except for Bank of Ireland, which gained 4c to 36c. Both Allied Irish Bank and Irish Life & Permanent both lost 3c to 52c and 75c respectively.

It was a mixed day for the construction sector, with CRH gaining 35c to €15.95, but Kingspan lost 20c to €2.65. Similarly in the food sector, Glanbia gained 11c to €2.46 as Kerry Group lost 17c to €14.90.

Elsewhere, there were some impressive gains. Paddy Power shot up, gaining 32c to €12.40. DCC was up 17c to €12.32 and Elan climbed 13c to €4.31.
