Redknapp calls for fight from Spurs stars

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has accused some of his players of lacking the necessary character required for a relegation scrap.

Yesterday’s late 1-0 defeat against Wigan was their fifth Barclays Premier League match without a victory and they remain in the bottom three.

After a bright opening 25 minutes at the JJB Stadium Redknapp’s side faded badly and it was only Wigan’s lack of sharpness up front which prevented them scoring sooner than the first minute of second half injury time.

The goal came from the unlikely source of Honduran left-back Maynor Figueroa who headed home Ryan Taylor’s right-wing corner.

“It looks like a certain kind of player right through [the squad]. There is plenty of flair,” Redknapp said.

“But we are in a relegation scrap and we need some men and some characters to get us out of it, that is what you are looking for when you are in the position we are in. We’ve got some but not enough. You’d put your life on Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson, Didier Zokora, Jamie O’Hara.”
