'40% survival chance' for Goody in cancer fight

Jade Goody said today that her cervical cancer survival chances now stand at 40%.

The 27-year-old former 'Big Brother' contestant said she has been hanging on to life by her “fingernails”.

She has lost her hair and is wearing a scarf on her head after undergoing chemotherapy.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror today, Goody said: “I’m realistic.

“I know that I might not have that long left.

“I have been – and still am – very poorly. I’ve been hanging on to life with my fingernails. But I will not let go.”

She said she had never been suicidal, adding: “I’ve only got a 40% chance of living anyway!”

Goody was taking part in the Indian version of 'Big Brother' last year when she discovered she had cervical cancer.

The star jetted home after show producers called her to the Diary Room to break the devastating news.

She was previously given a 50-50 chance of survival and had to undergo a hysterectomy after learning that the cancer had spread to her womb.

Goody described how she was “wailing and screaming” as her hair began to fall out in the days following chemotherapy treatment.

She told the newspaper: “Within three days it had all gone except for a couple of spiky strands...

“I didn’t keep a single strand as a memento, I just got my mum to chuck it in the bin.

“Even men whose hair starts to recede admit it affects their self-confidence.

“But for a woman, hair is what makes them feminine – it is very hard to come to terms with it.”

Goody described how she was devastated when her five-year-old son Bobby started crying after she rushed downstairs one morning without her headscarf on.

She said she had also visited boyfriend Jack Tweed in jail and lifted the headscarf to show him her hair loss.

Goody said: “No matter what kind of bloke you are with, every woman wants their man to fancy them.

“And, of course, that worries me.”

On January 2, it was announced that Goody would have to drop out of her panto role due to health fears over a blocked kidney.

The mother-of-two had been playing the Wicked Queen in a production of 'Snow White' at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln, where her strength and determination were praised.
