Fine Gael calls for 25-year jail term for gangland murderers

Fine Gael has said if it gets into power, a minimum of 25 years in jail will be the norm for persons convicted of gangland crime.

The party's National Conference in Wexford has been told that the average sentence served by murderers is 13 years.

Addressing delegates, the Party's spokesperson on Justice Charlie Flanagan said the figures on crime for 2007 made depressing reading.
