Woods out in front in Miami
Tiger Woods wasted little time exerting his authority at the €5.1m CA Championship as he bolted into the lead more than halfway through the second round.
Woods, who started the day two strokes off the pace, jump-started his round with an eagle at his third hole, the par-five 12th, where he holed a 40-foot bunker shot.
He picked up another birdie at the par-four 16th and made the turn at eight under, before adding an eagle at the par-five first, where he hit his second shot from 190 yards to six feet and duly sank the putt.
That left him at 10 under, while Australian Adam Scott moved into second place a shot behind after five holes, with another Australian Geoff Ogilvy, eight under through five.
Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who shared the first round lead with Ogilvy, fell back to five under by dropping two shots in his outward half, the same score as Luke Donald, who headed the British contingent after 10 holes.
Woods, who has won this World Golf Championships event six times in eight starts, is seeking to extend his impressive winning streak, which currently stands at seven tournaments and counting.
The streak has included five PGA Tour tournaments, one European Tour event, and his own unofficial tournament, where he nonetheless beat a star-studded field.
As impressive as Woods was, Scott was pretty good too, gathering four birdies in five holes with a mixture of strong iron play and a hot putter.
Meanwhile, Colin Montgomerie’s already slim Masters hopes became even more unlikely when he made a slow start, dropping one shot to slip to four over after four holes.
