Love in the Time of Cholera is disappointing
Love in the Time of Cholera

Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s great novel, from which this film is taken, is a tale of love lost and a longing spanning several decades. And, sadly, it doesn’t work as well as it should because there is little that binds the chief characters – played by Bardem and Mezzogiorna – together.
He plays a clerk whose love for her is thwarted by a disapproving father who sends her away, later to marry a doctor (Bratt) … and we ponder the possibility of the original lovers ever meeting again.
And everybody suffers and loses out … and suffers some more.
Better to read the book since it’s translation to the screen is so disappointing.
