Thornton targets autumn comeback
Andrew Thornton is starting out on the long road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery on Monday.
The rider has been sidelined since damaging muscles and tendons in his shoulder in a fall at Kempton last month.
Thornton is now hoping to return in September or October after a four-hour operation.
He said: “I had the surgery yesterday and saw the doctor again earlier this morning and he is satisfied it all went well.
“It was keyhole surgery, which is a plus, and it did take a while but everything that needed to be reattached has been.
“It was quite a big job and it will be five to six months before I’m back so I’m looking at the start of the season proper – either the end of September or beginning of October.
“I’m in a sling for six weeks now and then it is just a case of rehabilitation after that.”
