New press complaints procedure comes into force

A new complaints procedure against newspapers and magazines comes into force today.

From this morning, the Press Ombudsman, John Horgan, will investigate complaints from the public about breaches of a new code of conduct agreed by the print media.

Complaints can only be made by people who are directly affected by or involved in the article in question.

The code of conduct covers a range of areas including accuracy, fairness, privacy and incitement to hatred.
