At least 300 to be refused private-security licences
02/01/2008 - 07:47:13The Private Security Authority is reportedly set to refuse licences to at least 300 people working as bouncers or security guards across the country.
Reports this morning say the vast majority of the refusals are due to previous convictions for assault, theft and drugs offences, while at least one refusal relates to a rape conviction.
The final number of refusals could also be significantly higher as only half of the 20,000 licence applications have been processed by the PSA.
As many as 5,000 others are also believed to have failed to apply for a licence, even though it has been a legal obligation since last April.
