West coast to be hit by waves of up to 14m

Some of the highest waves in recent years are expected to lash the west coast of the country over the weekend.

The Marine Institute is predicting waves of up to 14 metres as gale-force winds develop on all coastal waters.

Irish Ferries has cancelled all of its Swift sailings today as a result of the bad weather, but says anyone wishing to travel will be accommodated on its cruise ferry, the MV Ulysses.
