Musharraf relinquishes army's top job

Pervez Musharraf stepped down today from his powerful post as military commander, a day before he is due to be sworn in as Pakistan’s civilian president.

During a change of command in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, near the capital, Islamabad, Musharraf relinquished his post by handing over his ceremonial baton to his successor Gen. Ashfaq Kayani.

He said he is confident his successor will take the army towards new heights.
